Monster Rancher is a game that I played incessantly as a child. Unfortunately we lost our copy years ago, but thanks to ebay I found another. I love this game. It's exciting and inventive. One drawback to the game is that, playing it now as an adult, I've begun to realize that it does start to get a bit tedious sending your chosen monster through training after training (which is essentially what the whole game is about) but for me, I feel it is worth it. Maybe I'm just an oversensitive gamer, but I really get emotionally attached to each individual monster I raise for battle. I gave this game a "Good" rating, because although it is still one of my favorite games to play, it did start to get repetitive after a while. I'd say this game would be a great buy for young children, even though it's designed for an old platform. Definitely worth every penny.Read full review
I *had* to buy this game, I used to play it all the time in high school at my best friend's house on the original PS. The game is very addicting. The best thing is getting to pop in a differnt cd and get it read to make monsters. Training takes quite a while, but it's a big part of the game. I love this game, it's easy and simple but keeps you glued for hours.
No lag or extra loading, game is in good shape. Thanks a bunch for the nostalgia!

I love this game. I used to play it with my brother when we were younger. i bought it because its extremely hard to find in game stores, ive been looking for it for a while now. The graphics are decent for being such an old game. The one we played when i was younger had slightly better graphics because it was an updated remake though. You can find different monsters in random cd's and freeze them together to make better, rarer monsters. it can be very addicting. Great game for kids.
I absolutely love this game and recommend it highly. It provides hours of entertainment because it's very intricate and there's so much you can do with it. It kind of reminds me of a choose-your-own-adventure book. There's a basic plot to the game: You get a monster from the market, at the Shrine (where monsters are generated from your CD's), or by combining 2 existing monsters. There are >200 different kinds of monsters that you can have and they range from cute to hideous, large to small, smart to dumb, strong to weak. Once you pick a monster, you get to raise it. You decide what to feed him, how to train him, whether to punish/praise him, etc., and these decisions can affect what happens to you and your monster throughout the game. You can also battle your monster in tournaments to win money/prizes and take him on expeditions to find important items. You will watch as your monster grows bigger, older, and stronger, and eventually dies :-( Your monster is like a virtual pet, except cooler, cuz he's a monster! One of the reasons I like this game so much is that it never gets boring. No two monsters are completely alike and it's different every time you raise one, so the variation keeps it interesting. There can be a lot of strategy involved in raising a monster. This game is great for all ages and it's rated E. There are monsters that will appeal to both boys and girls. The battles aren't gory and the monsters don't actually die when they get KO'd. Despite the lack of violence, adults will like it, too. They'll get sucked in to the strategy: trying to unlock rare monsters, or raise the ultimate fighting machine, or figure out how to extend a monster's life span. Or they'll spend hours tearing through all their CD's to see what monster is on each of them. All in all, this game is great fun and I highly recommend it to all. It's easier and less complicated than the other games in the Monster Rancher series, but it's still very in-depth and engaging.Read full review
